Other Notes: Johann Frederick Wilhelm Ziegeler was born in Hanover, Germany in 1855. He completed an apprenticeship in scientific instrument trade and subsequently spent the following years travelling and working around Europe, where he spent time working for Messrs. T Cook & Sons, clockmakers in York, England, in 1888, Ziegeler decided to immigrate to Australia, where he was engaged by Mr Newman, a well-known leading Melbourne clockmaker, after two years under Newman's direction, Ziegeler started his own business, specializing in the manufacture of large clocks, in fact many of his clocks grace the buildings of Melbourne. He later retired in 1923.
