An early English marquetry long case clock, John Sudell, Rochester, circa 1690, the walnut and marquetry flat topped hood with ebonised barley twist columns, convex throat moulding above the rectangular trunk door inlaid with bird and floral marquetry within 'D' ended panels and within ebonised moulding. The base inlaid with floral marquetry standing on bun feet. Gilt surround to door lenticle. The square dial plate signed 'John Suddell, Rochester' on lower edge of chapter ring which has Roman and Arabic numerals. The matted centre with ringed winding holes and decorated calendar aperture. Silvered seconds ring above centre arbour. The chapter ring flanked by crown and cherub spandrel in each corner of dial plate. The movement with five ring turned knopped pillars, bell striking with inside count wheel, eight day duration, bell striking and an anchor escapement, 208 cm high, 48 cm wide, 26 cm deep
