A Russian icon, 'The Day of Celebration', circa 1800, painted in tempera paint. Depicting the resurrection of Jesus, told in four episodes: the angels by the grave, the resurrection from the grave, the descent to hell and the appearance by Christ by the Tiberian lake. This central scene is framed by twelve subsidiary scenes, devoted to the series of great religious celebration in a year: the hospitality of Abraham (Trinity), the birth of Maria, entrance of Maria in the temple, the Gospel (good news), the birth of Christ, dedication of Christ in the temple, baptism of Christ, Christ' transfiguration on mount Thabor, entry in Jerusalem, Ascension, awakening of Maria, cross exaltation. 31 cm high by 26.5 cm wide
