An fine French writing bureau, by Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811-1885), circa 1880. Signed to lockplate Diehl, Paris. 84.5 cm high, 66 cm wide, 47 cm deep. Note: German born Charles-Guillaume Diehl settled in Paris in 1840 and developed a flourishing trade in cabinet making and elegant little pieces such as caskets. By 1850 Diehl was listed in the Almanach du Commerce, and in 1870 he had 600 employees registered in his workshop. Diehl is well known for his speciality in luxurious creations, which fell in line with the tastes of the Parisian and international clientiele of the 18th century.
