Gabriel Viardot (1830-1906), a gilt metal and bronze mounted ivory, bone and mother of pearl inlaid mahogany side cabinet, French, dated 1887, decorated in the 'Japonisme' taste, the upper section with a pagoda top centred by a gilt bronze gryphon, above a single glazed door flanked by open shelves and a bronze support modelled as a crane standing atop a minogame turtle, the lower section with three frieze drawers and a solid panelled door inlaid with flowering branches in a lacquered vase, beside a further open shelf, incised signature and date 'G. Viardot Paris 1837', 162.5 cm high, 87 cm wide, 42 cm deep
