Colonial India: A sketchbook of scenes in the Northwest Province and Kashmir, 1889 - 1900, Oblong folio, contemporary half morocco over pebbled cloth boards, gilt, spine with raised bands, silk endpaper inscribed 'Fred B. Mein / May L. Mein / their sketches 1891 - 1900' (although the earliest sketch is dated April 1889). Contains 60 watercolours (24 monochrome) and 5 pencil sketches (after a number have been removed by a previous owner, several leaves loose), mounted on the thick leaves. Various sizes, most initialled, dated and captioned in the image. Besides the Indian content there are several of the village of Finchampstead (Berkshire). Lt. Colonel Frederick Blundell Mein, Indian Army, served in the second Anglo-Afghan War and in the Indian frontier campaign under Sir William Lockhart.
