(Van Diemen's Land) Feb.1833 memorandum on behalf of The Lieutenant Governor, who '.has dictated that the undermentioned convicts under sentence of imprisonment and hard labour for the period stated opposite their respective names, passed at Richmond, are to be disposed of as follows:- Robert Jones #403 'Georgiana, Hulk Chain Gang - 12 months, George Williamson #560 Sir Godfrey Webster, 3 months in the Richmond Detention Centre, Principal Superintendent, William Gunn, The Police Magistrate Richmond, Robert Jones had been convicted at Middlesex Gaol and sentenced to Life. He sailed on the Georgiana with 183 other convicts, on the 28th September, 1832, and arrived in Vdl on 1st February, 1833. George Williamson was convicted at York East Riding Quarter Sessions and sentenced to 7 years. He sailed on the Sir Godfrey Webster with 181 other convicts, on the 4th August, 1823, and arrived in Vdl on 13th December, 1823. Principal Superintendent William Gunn: was appointed superintendent of the Prisoners' Barracks, Hobart in 1826 and in 1832 he was placed in charge of the Male House of Correction. By 1850 his duties included police magistrate at Launceston, a positioned he retained until his death on 10 June 1868. Gunn famously did not have a right arm as it had been amputated after being shot by one of the Matthew Brady Gang, which occurred while he was in command of soldiers in action against bushrangers.
