An inscribed Khmer sandstone Stele, circa 12th-13th century AD, the rectangular panel with a central recessed image of Buddha at the base, the upper section inscribed with Sanskrit, 92 cm note: inscribed steles form an important aspect of Cambodia epigraphy. Characterised by simple, clear form with graceful curved lines. Cf.: pou, S. 1997, 'Khmer Epigraphy' in H. Jessup and T. Zephir, sculpture of Angkor and ancient Cambodia, pp53-61.
