A carved bamboo brushpot, Bitong Qing dynasty, 19th century, the cylindrical sides carved in high relief with openwork details depicting the narrative 'Seven Sages in a Bamboo Grove', the sages variously occupied, some seated playing a game of weiqi, or seated drinking, and others arriving with an attendant carrying a qin whilst other attendants prepare food, in a continuous rocky landscape of pine and bamboo, incised on one side with the two character mark Zong Yu, 17 cm high
