Description:
An important Chinese figure of Guan Yin Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), enhanced with polychrome application, the bodhisattva of compassion seated majestically in 'Rajalilasana', her right hand resting on the raised leg, the left hand supporting the pose, her head surmounted by an elegant high foliate coronet, with her hair arranged elaborately into a high looped chignon, with dramatically rendered tresses forming a rippling hairline around her plump face, with idealized features set in an expression of extreme serenity, with fine blue-black strokes indicating the high arching eyebrows, curving over her narrow, slanted eyes, with a large vermillion 'Urna' indented in the centre of her forehead, her plump lips pursed solemnly, the chin prominent and bulbous, festooned with an intricate foliate necklace across her bare chest, with a brahmanic cord slung diagonally across her stocky torso, tied at the waist to secure the skirt of her dhoti, which falls gracefully to her ankles, with both feet exposed, seated on a rocky naturalistic base, the expansive skirt draped over the base, her left foot resting on a lotus flower head, 145 cm high.
