An impressive Japanese gilded vase, 19th century, of baluster shape with scalloped rim, one Thousand crane design Senbazuru. Enamelled decoration of flying cranes over a cloud background in sprays of gold. The base with a design of stone paving, 81 cm high. Provenance: The collection of a curator and collector, New South Wales. Other Notes: Senbazuru is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes held together by strings. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by the gods
