A rare New Zealand colonial heavy 15ct. yellow gold bangle made by E.J. Thompson, relief cast hinged belt and buckle form with, a single red stone (almandine garnet) set to the top, stamped maker's name in full and gold mark. Weight 90.6gms. Note: cast bangles are rare, the gold content being at least three times higher than other standard hollow examples. This maker's mark is unrecorded in Winsome Shepherd's book, 'Gold & Silversmithing in Nineteenth & Twentieth Century N.Z.' 1995. E.J. Thomson was based in Great King Street, Dunedin
