An old 18th century style Japanese child's suit of armour (Warabe Gusoku), dominantly laced with orange cord, the zunari helmet in copper with studded brass detail, gilded, painted and carved dragon surmounting winged fitting, sculpted partial face plate (hambo) with bristle moustache, traditional protective throat guard, chest, body, leg and side plates, gilded metal, chain mail, embroidered and other highly decorative trim, includes two swords, raised on a black lacquered box stand. Children of high ranking samurai were trained from a very early age to master both the martial and political skills required to maintain and promote their exalted status. Wearing armour at such a young age built both body strength and would give the child confidence for his future role in warrior society. Many examples of children's armour are of light gauge and lesser quality, this armour is a very notable exception. Height overall 132 cm
