'Von Tempsky's Pipe,' the briar bowl with gilt metal fittings and curved horn mouthpiece mounted to a varnished back board with applied, hand-written vintage plaque 'Von Tempsky's Pipe. This pipe was found among the possessions of Major Von Tempksy after his heroic death at Ngutu-O-Te-Manu in 1868. Afterwards his widow presented it to Captain Keddell. 'He bequeathed it to his friend, Mr John Harvey of Parnell.' Mr John Harvey being a friend of the vendor's father who had this pipe in his possession for many years. Together with a newspaper cutting detailing 'The Von Tempsky Fund'.
