An embellished lacquer six-fold screen, Qing dynasty, 19th century, each rectangular black lacquer panel inlaid in jade, malachite, lapis-lazuli, rose quartz, coral, carnelian, ivory, bone and other materials, depicting a continuous scene of figures on a pavilion terrace, a dignitary and his consort seated in front of screens with male and female attendants nearby, and with peach, magnolia and prunus trees, flowering peonies and precious objects in the garden beyond the painted balustrade, set against grounds of different diaper patterns painted in gilt and polychrome. the lower panels inlaid with vases of various plants and scattered fruits, the reverse painted in polychrome and gilt with birds among flowering and fruiting plants, the panels glazed within the wood frame, each panel 193 cm high, 50.5 cm wide
