A large painted 'Cizhou' jar, Yuan dynasty, the stoutly potted ovoid body surmounted by a short slightly waisted neck with lipped rim, the sides freely painted in dark brown on the creamy-white ground with a broad frieze of stylised bird motifs, below panels of calligraphy alternating with panels of floral sprays around the shoulders, all between bands of wavy lines, revolving wood stand, 73 cm high.
