A very impressive and important large Edwardian sterling silver trophy cup, the wide cauldron body stands on a circular footed base decorated with raised repousse trailing grape vines and bunches. Twin ornate scroll handles with scroll arm supports, the circular stand base with a border of raised acanthus leaves. Both hallmarked London 1907, maker Frank Hyams Ltd. who had shops in Dunedin and 128 New Bond Street, London. Inscribed on the base only 'Canterbury Jockey Club, the Jubilee Cup 1907, won by Hon J.D. Ormond's brh Zimmerman 4yrs, by Birkenhead Solitaire, height 45 cm, width (across handles) 53 cm, total weight including stand base 6.17kg
