A Victorian silver gilt presentation cup, cylindrical body with central frosted band, crested within an oval laurel wreath, on a beaded knopped stem, the whole on a spread circular foot with frosted decoration, engraved 'The Gift of the Mercers Company to commemorate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria, 1887', by Robert Roskell, Allan Roskell & John Mortimer Hunt, London 1887, also incuse stamped Hunt & Roskell. Height 245, weight 540gms. In 1887, to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee each member of the Mercer's Company was presented with one of these cups, this example numbered 180. It is modelled on a pair of silver cups gifted to the Mercer's Company by the Bank of England in 1694 for the use of the Mercer's Chapel as temporary premises following the inauguration of the bank the same year.
