A 'Christchurch Brick Co. Ltd.' blue glazed opium burner, of squat spherical form and cylindrical neck, with wide band of coggled decoration, mottled glaze, impressed mark, diameter 11.5 cm. Note: It is recorded by Gail Henry in 'pottery in New Zealand', 'The Products Back Stamped', 'Christchurch Brick Company' are amongst the most competently potted and glazed of any early New Zealand wares', it is also interesting that there was a need to produce such items as this opium burner, obviously the growing Chinese population demanded use of such items
