An impressive Victorian silver gilt and cut glass claret jug, the substantial Rococo-type mount cast and embossed with cherubs cavorting with naked maidens, a Bacchus mask to lower spout, cherub full-figure finial, the handle modelled as an imbibing cherub reclining on a naturalistic branch, the compressed spherical glass body finely engraved with grapevine detail and a star cut base. London 1861 by John Wilmin Figg, a noted claret jug maker. Engraved to the rim: 'H.S.Collins Esq: R.N. from Sherard Osborn, C.B. & the Officers of the European Chinese Naval Force 1862-64'.
