An inscribed first edition volume: Lawson, Henry 'Selected Poems of Henry Lawson' [1918], pub. Angus and Robertson, inscribed by Henry Lawson 'To Father Troy with best wishes from Henry Lawson, Sydney November 24th 1919,' illustrated with black & white plates throughout by Percy Leason & Preface by David McKee Wright, condition: dust jacket yellowed & stained, tearing to spine, a small amount of foxing, some colour pencil marks, but very readable and otherwise good. Provenance: The book came to be in the possession of the Gammell/Davis family, descendants of William Davis (1765 - 1843), an Irish convict sent to Australia without trial. An active member of the early Roman Catholic movement in Sydney, Davis purchased & gifted land that enabled the establishment of St Patrick's church Hill at the rocks in Sydney., It is thought that the Gammell/Davis family were acquaintances of the Father Troy mentioned in the inscription.
