A rare New Zealand historical World War II field map of 'The Defence Of Cassino', signed by Buck Needham and presumably used by him in the field, showing signs of wear and some staining including holes from being confidentially pinned when folded. Noted twice in the printing as 'Confidential' and with printed dates '20 March 1944' (Source aerial photographs) and '25 March 1944'. Showing field guns, pillboxes, mines, reported tunnel etc. 50 cm x 62 cm. Note: Sergeant Buck Needham, 20 New Zealand Armoured Regiment was awarded his Military Medal due to his 'Great coolness and presence of mind besides a complete disregard for his own personal safety. His leadership and the example he set were an inspiration to the remaining members of his troop'. On researching this map only one other example could be found in the British Library collection.
