A rare presentation signed portrait photograph of the explorer Roald Amundsen by Herman John Schmidt. Signed in ink and dated 30th April 1912, exactly three months after departing Antarctica and one month after informing the world of the successful first expedition to reach the geographic South Pole. Amundsen had travelled to Hobart from the Great Ice Barrier arriving on 7th March and then travelled subsequently via New Zealand to Buenos Aires to rejoin his ship The Fram. This uncommon studio portrait was taken by Schmidt owner of the Hemus Photographic Studio, Auckland. 19.5 cm x 14.5 cm image, entitled in matted window 'Capt.
