A 'Royal Century' astronomical telescope, presented in its original mahogany case along with a modified steel tripod supporting a worm geared vernier adjusted brass table, the telescope fitted with the celebrated Conrady-Watson Type III objective lens, noted for perfect correct and exceptionally fine figuring. The U.K.'s National Museum of Science and Industry funded the purchase of the only other known examples of this telescope to add to the collection held by the Cambridge Whipple Museum of the History of Science for the sum of £10,000.
