A very rare ovoid Phosphatic ewer, Tang Dynasty, 8th-9th century, the spout in the form of a Makara head with three horns attached to the body of the vessel, a looped strap handle at the back, several bosses around the spout and handle, a chocolate brown glaze on the inside and stopped in an uneven line on the lower half of the exterior of the buff stoneware body, suffused with milky white streaks pooling unevenly towards and onto the foot which is knife-cut and slightly splayed, supported on a flat base, probably Lushan Kilns, Henan province, 17.9 cm high, *the age is consistent with Oxford Tl certificate number P110g61.
