A magnificent & rare Anton Seuffert parquetry chess board table c1870 the table has the original Teutenberg & Seuffert base, the column carved in acanthus & floral relief on circular inlaid platform base terminating on three scroll feet. The top decorated with overlaid square boards with intricate borders and geometric inlay in various New Zealand timbers. Original label beneath. The chess board table appears to be the first to have come to the market and May represent only one or two ever made. It also May be the table that was exhibited in the Sydney international Exhibition of 1879. Height 69 cm, 61 cm dia. Provenance: Private Collection, Auckland, formerly purchased, Sydney, Australia
