A fine signed Japanese ivory and timber Woodcutter figure, Meiji period, 1868-1912, the figure of an older man with a pipe sitting upon a carved boulder base, his axe and a wrapped bundle of sticks beside him, the figure's clothing finely carved and coloured with enamel, gold mons and delicate abalone inlay, an inlaid ivory cartouche with two character marks underside.
